Ingredients

1 cup ketchup
2 Tbsp. butter
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup white vinegar
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. dry mustard
1 tsp. coarsely ground black pepper
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  • Melt the butter in a sauce pan.
  • Add the remaining ingredients and cook on medium low until the sugar is melted and the sauce is warm and just slightly bubbly on the edges.
  • Turn the heat down to low and let it simmer.  The longer you let it simmer, the thicker it will get.
  • Keep the sauce warm until you are ready to serve it.  It can also be stored in the refrigerator and reheated.

Note that I did not include the cayenne pepper in the winning version at the tasting party.  But if you prefer your sauce with a spicy kick add the cayenne pepper and consider adding another tablespoon of the Worstershire sauce.  Enjoy!
